Charles Hoskinson, founder of the Cardano blockchain, recently made a major announcement at the Consensus 2025. Speaking at the event, Hoskinson revealed that XRP holders will receive a large share of tokens from the new Midnight network.

According to him, this major airdrop is one of the biggest ever seen in the crypto industry. Additionally, it highlights a growing effort to bring together different blockchain communities.

Midnight Network Brings Privacy and Unity to Crypto

The Midnight network is a new sidechain built for the Cardano network. It focuses on data privacy and regulatory compliance. Its goal is to help developers build apps that protect user information while adhering to legal regulations.

The Midnight network operates on two primary tokens: NIGHT and DUST. NIGHT is designed for decision-making and shaping the network’s growth, while DUST will be utilized to handle everyday transactions and pay fees within the system.

At the event, Hoskinson announced that XRP holders will receive 5% of the NIGHT token supply, equivalent to approximately 1.2 billion tokens. This move is part of a larger effort to connect different blockchain communities.

Midnight Airdrop Begins as XRP Holders Qualify

The total supply of NIGHT tokens is 24 billion. According to Midnight’s tokenomics, 50% of the total supply will go to Cardano holders. 30% of the tokens will be allocated to Bitcoin (BTC) holders. Another 5% is set aside for XRP holders and users of other blockchains like Ethereum (ETH), Solana (SOL), BNB, AVAX, and BAT

A snapshot was taken on June 11 to determine eligibility. To qualify, users needed to have at least $100 worth of XRP in their wallets on that day. The data shows that 37 million wallets across all chains are eligible.

Notably, the Midnight claim page went live on July 15, starting a 60-day window for eligible users to collect their NIGHT tokens. This is a unique opportunity for XRP holders to participate in a privacy-first blockchain at an early stage.

A Step Toward Cross-Chain Collaboration

Charles Hoskinson, who is preparing to share an audit of IOG’s ADA holdings publicly, shared that this move is not just about giving away tokens; it is about bringing communities together. He believes collaboration, not competition, is the future of crypto.

By including XRP holders and others, the Midnight network hopes to create bridges across blockchains. In past discussions, Ripple CTO David Schwartz praised Midnight’s design. He called it “extremely interesting” and supported its focus on privacy and scale.

Hoskinson, too, highlighted how zero-knowledge cryptography can help the network protect users while staying compliant with laws.

Furthermore, XRP is best known for its use in cross-border payments, but its inclusion in this airdrop shows how it can expand beyond its core use. This news comes as XRP gains traction in the cryptocurrency market.
