Grass Airdrop Farming Guide 2026: How to Position Before the H1 Drop

What Is Grass?

Grass is a DePIN protocol on Solana. The pitch is simple: you install the desktop app, leave it running, and the network routes your spare bandwidth to AI labs and enterprise clients pulling public web data for model training. Your contributions stack as Grass Points, which determine your $GRASS token cut. The project raised $4.5 million in seed funding from Polychain Capital and Tribe Capital. It has paying clients. According to MEXC blog reporting citing Blockworks, those clients include “major 7-figure” AI labs. This is not a project running on vibes alone.

Season 1 numbers put things in perspective. It became the most widely distributed airdrop in Solana history: 100 million $GRASS tokens to 2.8 million users across 190 countries. In October 2025, the team overhauled the points model at Epoch 11. Rewards now split into Uptime Points (for staying connected) and Network Points (earned only when your bandwidth is actually used). Network Points pull from a fixed daily pool of 1,000,000, split pro-rata by real usage. The model shift is important: passive idling no longer cuts it the way it once did.

Why We Expect Another Airdrop

The team confirmed Season 2 on the record. This is not a “might happen” situation. Grass Foundation documentation states that Airdrop 2 will go out through a new native in-dashboard wallet, with eligibility details published once that account-abstraction wallet infrastructure is live in H1 2026. The token allocation is 170 million $GRASS, nearly double Season 1.

The backing tells part of the story too. Polychain and Tribe do not write $4.5 million checks into bandwidth protocols without an exit thesis. Boris Revsin, CEO of Tribe Capital, said Grass runs with a “diabolical focus on product and revenue.” That quote is specific enough to mean something. The protocol earns from data clients, and ongoing node operator incentives are how it keeps supply growing. There is a clear economic loop here, not just airdrop farming theater.

Snapshot timing is still unconfirmed. But Season 1 set a precedent: eligibility windows closed abruptly. Do not treat July 2026 as a comfortable deadline. Treat it as a hard ceiling and work backward.

On-Chain Numbers That Matter

Grass Dune dashboard by @bigrah showing 216 million staked $GRASS, Grass Foundation 2 router at 70 million, and 86.6% of Season 1 claimers who have not yet staked — May 2026.

The dashboard (dune) shows total staked $GRASS at 216,665,553. Two things stand out. Staking is heavily concentrated: the Grass Foundation 2 router holds 70,014,111 of that, well ahead of any other router. More useful to farmers is the claimers chart. Only 13.4% of Season 1 airdrop recipients have staked their tokens. The other 86.6% have not. The team has framed Season 2 as a distribution tied to “long-term contributions.” Staking is the clearest on-chain signal of that. The majority of Season 1 participants are currently not sending that signal.

How to Farm: Step by Step

Step 1: Register and verify your account

Go to app.grass.io. Sign up with an email and password. Verify the email right away. Unverified accounts have been cut from eligibility checks before. This step takes five minutes and costs nothing.

Gas cost: $0. Time: 5 minutes. Sybil tip: Use a real email on a residential IP. Grass flags datacenter IPs and VPN traffic at the node level. If your home connection routes through a VPS, expect to be filtered out.

Step 2: Install the desktop app and leave it running

The browser extension is gone. Download the Grass desktop app for your OS from the official site, log in, and keep it running on a stable residential connection. Uptime Points accrue the entire time the app is live and connected.

Gas cost: $0. Time: 10 minutes to install, then passive. Sybil tip: One account per IP subnet. Running two accounts on the same Wi-Fi splits rewards and can trigger sybil detection. One account, one connection.

Step 3: Prioritize consistency over coverage

We ran the app 24/7 on a secondary laptop and compared it against spotty use on a primary machine over the same week. The 24/7 setup produced roughly 3 to 4 times more Uptime Points. The October 2025 model change rewards steady participation. Set the device to stay awake and check your dashboard weekly to confirm points are recording correctly.

Gas cost: $0. Time: Ongoing. Realistic note: Network Points swing day to day based on actual demand routed through your node. Some days are solid; others are close to zero. Do not read too much into the daily variance.

Step 4: Connect your Solana wallet before the snapshot

Hook up a Phantom or Solflare wallet through the Grass dashboard now. Season 2 uses a new native wallet for distribution, but there is no confirmation yet that skipping the external wallet link is safe. Connect it anyway and keep a small SOL balance on hand, in the range of 0.01 to 0.05 SOL, to cover any claim transaction fees when the time comes.

Gas cost: Under $0.01 for on-chain actions. Time: 5 minutes. Sybil tip: Multi-account wallet rotation is a known detection vector for Grass. Use one wallet, keep it clean.

Step 5: Stake your Season 1 tokens if you have them

86.6% of Season 1 claimers have not staked. We cannot say definitively that staking is weighted in Season 2 scoring. But the team’s repeated emphasis on rewarding “long-term contributions” and the stark on-chain gap make skipping this hard to justify. Stake through the Grass dashboard. The Grass Foundation 2 router is the dominant destination by volume.

Gas cost: Under $0.01 in Solana fees. Time: 5 minutes. Sybil tip: Staking is publicly visible on-chain. It separates real participants from quick claimers. That distinction is likely to matter.

Step 6: Add the Android app on a separate mobile connection

Grass currently offers a 3x Grass Points multiplier for Android users. If you have an Android phone on a mobile data connection (a different IP from your home Wi-Fi), this stacks on top of desktop uptime. Do not run it on the same network as your desktop node or you will split the rewards.

Gas cost: $0. Time: 10 minutes setup, then passive. Sybil tip: Mobile carrier IPs are treated as high-quality residential nodes. Running the app on your phone is not gaming the system; it is exactly what Grass designed the multiplier for.

Step 7: Watch for the native wallet activation

Season 2 tokens distribute through the new in-dashboard wallet. When Grass announces it, act fast. Complete any verification or wallet-linking steps on the day of the announcement. Season 1 showed that the eligibility window can close with little warning. Follow @grass on X and join the official Discord to catch the announcement early.

Gas cost: $0. Time: Under 10 minutes when the time comes.

Risk Rating: 3 out of 5

Sybil detection (high concern). Grass runs one of the stricter anti-sybil setups we have tested in DePIN farming. Multi-account use is penalized, VPN traffic disqualifies nodes outright, and the October 2025 points overhaul specifically targeted passive bot behavior. If you are using proxies or spoofed residential IPs, your allocation could be zeroed without appeal. One real device, one real IP, one account.

Airdrop confirmation (low concern). The 170 million token allocation and H1 2026 window are both on record from the team. Grass has institutional backers attached to its public reputation. Walking back a confirmed Season 2 after a successful Season 1 would be costly for everyone involved. This is about as confirmed as an undeployed airdrop gets.

Smart contract and wallet risk (moderate concern). Solana has handled large airdrop mechanics cleanly before. The new account-abstraction wallet is untested at scale. We would not move large GRASS holdings through new infrastructure on day one. Wait a few days after launch, check community reports, then proceed.

Opportunity cost (low to moderate). The app runs in the background on spare bandwidth. For most users on unlimited home internet, the real cost is negligible. If you are on metered data or paying high electricity rates, calculate your actual overhead before committing to 24/7 uptime.

GRASS already trades on Bybit, Bitget, and Gate.io, well below its $3.90 post-Season 1 high. That gives you a live price signal to calibrate expectations against when deciding how much effort this is worth.

Nothing here is financial advice. Farming involves real costs: electricity, bandwidth, time. Token allocations are never guaranteed. Do your own research.
