Key Highlights

Staff from the Securities and Exchange Commission’s Crypto Task Force met with representatives from WisdomTree, Inc. and Thorn Run Partners LLC on August 12, 2026, to discuss regulatory issues related to crypto assets.

According to the official SEC update, the meeting covered three areas. First, an update on WisdomTree and perspectives on the tokenized fund marketplace. Second, discussion of wallet onboarding for tokenized fund products. Third, discussion of commission rulemaking and guidance for tokenized assets.

Attendees from WisdomTree included Ryan Louvar, Chief Legal Officer and Head of Business & Legal Affairs; Rohan Ranadive, Head of Risk Management; Jason Guthrie, Head of Product, Digital Assets; and Shilpa Raina, Chief Compliance Officer and AML Officer. Chris Hayes, Partner at Thorn Run Partners and adviser to WisdomTree, also participated.

SEC to consider tailored crypto offering rules

The meeting came ahead of an SEC open meeting scheduled for Friday, August 14, at 10 a.m. ET. The Commission is set to consider whether to propose a tailored offering regime for certain investment contracts involving crypto assets. A vote would begin the formal rulemaking process if the proposal is approved.

The item appeared on the Commission’s agenda previously but was scheduled for consideration on short notice.

CFTC also examines crypto market structure

The SEC meeting comes as the Commodity Futures Trading Commission prepares to hold the inaugural meeting of its Innovation Advisory Committee on August 20.

CFTC Chairman Michael S. Selig, who sponsors the committee, released the agenda on Thursday. Crypto assets are among the main topics. The first substantive session is titled “Crypto’s Regulatory Evolution: From Uncertainty to Clarity.”

Discussion points include the development of crypto asset markets, early regulatory approaches, the growth of state licensing regimes, the absence of a comprehensive federal market structure framework, and the effects of overlapping jurisdictions and inconsistent regulatory interpretations. Additional topics cover cybersecurity, operational resilience, and crypto asset infrastructure.

The August 12 meeting between SEC staff and WisdomTree therefore comes as both agencies are examining regulatory issues surrounding digital assets, tokenized products, and emerging financial-market infrastructure.

WisdomTree has prior SEC relief for tokenized fund

WisdomTree has previously worked with the SEC on the regulatory treatment of tokenized investment products. On February 23, 2026, the SEC approved exemptive relief for the WisdomTree Treasury Money Market Digital Fund. The order permits the fund’s shares, issued in tokenized form on a blockchain, to trade during the day at a fixed price of $1.00 with a dealer, regardless of the fund’s end-of-day net asset value.

The relief was granted under the Investment Company Act of 1940 following an application by WisdomTree Digital Trust and affiliated entities. The exemption allows intraday trading at a constant price, differing from standard mutual fund rules that require transactions at the next calculated net asset value.

The latest meeting indicates that tokenized funds, wallet infrastructure, and the regulatory framework for tokenized assets remain areas of discussion between market participants and SEC staff.
