Pi Network is getting closer to its next network upgrade, with September 15 now set as the target date for the Protocol 27 Mainnet upgrade.
The new version is already being tested on Pi Testnet 1, and the plan is to move it through Testnet 2 before bringing it to Mainnet. The upgrade is expected to improve how the network works and prepare it for new features.
The hype has pushed Pi coin close to $0.10 as the overall market also recovers. As of the time of reporting, the token is trading for $0.093, up 5.06% within the last 24 hours. Meanwhile, the total crypto market gained 6.09% and reached a $2.57 trillion market cap.
Woody Lightyear, an account that follows Pi Network developments, said on X that the Pi Core Team had announced September 15 as the target date for the Protocol 27 Mainnet upgrade.
The post also pointed out that September 15 is the date of a planned U.S. Senate vote on the CLARITY Act. However, the supplied information does not say that the two events are connected.
The first major step is already happening on the test network. Pi Testnet 1 is now running Protocol 27, according to Pi Blockexplorer data. The deployment follows the earlier Protocol 26 upgrade and gives operators another chance to test the new version.
The upgrade is expected to prepare parts of the network such as RPC servers, decentralized exchange functions and automated market maker liquidity pools.
In short, these are parts of the system that can help the network handle connections, trading activity and liquidity. Another sign of the ongoing test is the number of nodes. The supplied report says Pi’s testnet nodes have passed 200,000. These nodes are computers that help run and test the network, so their growing number shows that many operators are taking part in the testing process.
The next stage is expected to be Testnet 2, another important step before the live upgrade. After that, the Protocol 27 upgrade could move toward Mainnet, where it would become part of the live Pi Network. The report says users are still waiting for further updates as testing continues.
Meanwhile, Pi Coin is also giving traders another reason to watch the project. The four-hour Relative Strength Index is currently at 67.97 which suggests that buyers are active in the market because it’s above 50.
However, the $0.10 level remains the key price mark in the report, giving traders a clear level to watch. The price had attempted to break past this level in July it got rejected and the seller pushed it down to $0.07. This would be Pi Coin’s second attempt at breaking this level.
Based on the chart pattern via TradingView, if Pi coin manages to break above the $0.10 level with a strong bullish candle, it could propel the price toward $0.13 where the next resistance level is.
