BitGo, Jupiter Enable Institutional SOL Staking From Custody

Key Highlights

BitGo and Jupiter have introduced an integration allowing eligible institutional clients to stake Solana’s SOL through their existing BitGo custody accounts.

In an announcement published on October 28, the service lets institutions delegate SOL to the Jupiter x BitGo validator while keeping their assets in BitGo custody.

The launch follows BitGo’s recent expansion of Ethereum staking access and its custody role for a staking-focused investment product.

Institutions can stake SOL through existing accounts

Under the arrangement, eligible BitGo clients can delegate SOL to the Jupiter x BitGo validator through BitGo’s existing workflows, which are designed to accommodate institutional approval and asset management processes.

Jupiter operates the validator independently. BitGo said it does not control the validator’s performance, which may affect staking outcomes.

Unstaking is subject to Solana’s protocol-level deactivation period. Clients may therefore need to wait before they can withdraw or use delegated SOL after initiating deactivation.

Jupiter announces partnership on X

In an October 28 post on X, Jupiter announced that BitGo’s institutional clients could stake SOL through its validator directly from their existing custody accounts.

Kash Dhanda, Jupiter’s chief operating officer, said the partnership extends the company’s work beyond trading and lending products to Solana’s underlying infrastructure.

“Most people know Jupiter for swaps, perps, and lending, but none of that works without a network that’s secure and fast underneath it,” Dhanda said.

He added that running a validator allows Jupiter to invest in the network’s infrastructure. The companies did not disclose expected staking volumes, projected rewards, or the number of institutions expected to use the service.

BitGo’s other institutional staking and custody services

The SOL integration follows BitGo’s October 7 announcement that eligible US clients could access Lido ETH staking through their existing accounts, including holding and redeeming stETH.

The two offerings cover different networks: the Lido service provides access to Ethereum staking, while the Jupiter integration allows clients to delegate SOL to an independently operated Solana validator.

BitGo also serves as custodian for Grayscale’s Hyperliquid Staking ETF. In an October 6 report, The Crypto Times covered Grayscale’s addition of BitGo Bank & Trust as the fund’s custodian, which holds and stakes HYPE.

That arrangement concerns custody for an investment product rather than direct validator delegation through an institutional account.

BitGo highlights institutional approval processes

Abel Seow, managing director and head of APAC sales at BitGo, said staking services need to fit the custody and approval procedures institutions already use.

“Staking is an important part of how institutions manage their SOL holdings, and it needs to fit into their existing custody and approval processes,” Seow said.

BitGo Bank & Trust, N.A. is a national trust bank regulated by the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC). The specific BitGo entity providing services depends on the client’s jurisdiction and eligibility.

BitGo advertises cold-storage infrastructure and an insurance program that offers up to $250 million in coverage, subject to policy terms, limits, and exclusions. This coverage should not be interpreted as a guarantee of staking rewards or protection against every staking-related loss or changes in SOL’s market price.

Staking returns and access risks remain

SOL staking can generate protocol rewards, but returns vary and are not guaranteed. Validator downtime or underperformance may affect results, while protocol or software changes can introduce additional risks.

Clients may also face a delay when unstaking SOL because of Solana’s deactivation process. Separately, fluctuations in SOL’s market price can affect the value of their holdings regardless of staking performance.

BitGo said fees may apply but did not disclose specific rates in its announcement.

The integration gives eligible institutions a way to delegate SOL through BitGo’s existing custody workflows. However, BitGo and Jupiter have not disclosed participating-client numbers, expected staking volumes, fees, or projected rewards.

The service’s uptake and staking results will depend on client participation and the performance of Jupiter’s independently operated validator.
