A trusted voice in the XRP Ledger community has raised the alarm over growing security risks tied to a new cross-chain airdrop. In a post shared on X, XRPL validator Vet issued a critical warning to XRP holders participating in the Midnight airdrop, a project emerging from the Cardano ecosystem.

According to Vet, users must exercise extreme caution, interact only with official websites, never share their XRP account keys, and avoid downloading any third-party software.

Midnight Airdrop Draws Interest—And Scammers

The Midnight airdrop, which distributes NIGHT tokens to holders of multiple major assets including XRP, ADA, BTC, and ETH, is gaining rapid attention. Designed by Cardano’s Midnight sidechain, this airdrop allows eligible users—those who held at least $100 worth of XRP during a snapshot in June—to claim NIGHT tokens through a portal hosted at claim.midnight.gd. The claim process is currently facilitated through the Xaman Wallet, previously known as Xumm.

However, this spike in visibility has also drawn malicious actors. Fake websites, phishing links, and impersonated support agents have begun circulating widely. Vet’s post highlights these threats, warning XRP users not to fall victim to unofficial channels or deceptive prompts. The validator emphasized that the only safe route is through the project’s verified resources.

The Rising Risk of Exploits

As enthusiasm around XRP’s growing ecosystem intensifies—fueled by tokenization advancements, sidechain integration, and the EVM compatibility—scammers are capitalizing on FOMO (fear of missing out). Vet notes that these exploitative schemes often surge during major events, particularly airdrops, when users may act impulsively without verifying details.

Phishing campaigns typically mimic the appearance of trusted platforms to trick users into entering private keys or downloading malicious software. Once compromised, wallets are emptied instantly. Vet’s proactive warning is therefore a vital intervention, urging users to slow down and double-check every step.

Verified Claim Process: What to Know

Those eligible for the airdrop are advised to use only the official claim portal at claim.midnight.gd. Access should be made directly—never through third-party links shared on social media or messaging platforms. The Xaman Wallet app should be used in its latest, unmodified version, and users must be especially careful never to input their seed phrases outside the app’s official environment.

Importantly, support for the airdrop will only be offered through the in-app helpdesk, not on Telegram, Discord, or unofficial X accounts.

A Timely Reminder for the XRP Community

Vet’s message comes at a pivotal time. As the XRP Ledger gains momentum and cross-chain interoperability becomes more common, ensuring user security is paramount. The Midnight airdrop represents a significant opportunity—but only if approached with care.

This warning serves not to create fear but to foster awareness. With proper caution and a commitment to safety-first practices, XRP holders can benefit from the expanding utility of the ecosystem without falling prey to avoidable traps.

In crypto, opportunity and risk often walk hand in hand. Vet’s call for vigilance is a powerful reminder that trust begins with protection.
