Key Highlights

An anonymous hacker linked to the Grand Theft Auto VI leaks appears to have cashed out hundreds of thousands of dollars from the CYBERLEEK memecoin, sending the token sharply lower just hours before Rockstar Games was set to show new official GTA 6 gameplay.

The CyberLeek saga began on August 18, when unreleased GTA 6 gameplay clips started appearing online.

The videos were marked with the CYBERLEEK name and carried the message, “higher market cap = more leeks.” This helped connect the Solana-based memecoin to the leak activity as more people began searching for the footage and the token.

The attention quickly pushed CYBERLEEK higher. The token went from almost nothing to a market capitalization of about $25 million on August 23.

By August 26, The Crypto Times reported that that token was trading at around $0.0133, up 819% over seven days. Its market value was about $11.9 million, while roughly $13.79 million worth of the token changed hands in 24 hours.

Then came the big sell-off.

The cash-out sparks a sell-off

On Thursday, blockchain data showed that the CYBERLEEK contract owner claimed about $146,000 in wrapped SOL, along with 15.4 million CYBERLEEK tokens in creator fees. The owner then sold the entire token allocation for about $125,000 worth of SOL, according to Solscan transaction records.

The timing caught attention because the sale happened only hours before Rockstar’s official GTA 6 gameplay reveal. The money from the activity was also split across four newly created wallets. At least 91 SOL was later sent to KuCoin, according to blockchain tracking cited in reports.

Dexerto, citing GTAForums investigator “Vice Cit,” reported that the total cash-out was above $250,000. However, the figure has not been confirmed by the person behind CyberLeek or by KuCoin. The blockchain data shows the wallet activity, but it does not prove who controls the wallet or whether that person is the same individual responsible for the GTA 6 leaks.

There is another important detail. The money reportedly came from fees earned through trading volume, rather than the creator’s original token allocation. That original allocation was reportedly burned last week.

After the selling activity, CYBERLEEK fell heavily. The token now trades for $0.00654 after losing about 34.5%, according to data from Coingecko on August 27 (11:19 PM UTC). Its market capitalization dropped to around $4.7 million.

Rockstar responds to the leaks

The token’s rise and fall happened as Rockstar and its parent company, Take-Two Interactive, continued dealing with the wider GTA 6 leak. Rockstar in a recent  post on X, said the leaked videos appearing online had been “heartbreaking for the team.” The studio also apologized to fans and said the game was nearly finished.

Take-Two has also been working to uncover who is behind the leaks. Court filings show that the company sought information from Google and X and asked platforms to remove leaked GTA 6 videos and images. It has also reportedly sought information from Microsoft and Discord.

The hacker’s identity remains unknown

The GTA 6 leaks have now created an unusual chain of events: unreleased game footage appeared online, a memecoin grew around the attention, the token attracted millions of dollars in trading, and its contract owner then appeared to cash out before Rockstar’s official presentation.

For now, however, the identity of the person or group behind the CyberLeek activity remains unknown.
