Bitcoin Suisse, a Swiss crypto-financial services firm,  is cutting up to 60 of its 120 staff in Switzerland as part of a business reorganization, the crypto firm said on September 11, 2026.

According to a Reuters report, the Zug-based company stated that software development and back-office capabilities will increasingly be consolidated in its international hubs. The staff reductions are scheduled to take effect after a consultation period ending on September 20. The announcement confirmed an earlier report by Swiss outlet Finews.

Bitcoin Suisse, founded in 2013, employs around 200 people globally. The firm is also closing its IT development site in Copenhagen. Outside Switzerland, it operates an international hub in Bratislava and plans to establish another in Vietnam. Additional offices are located in Liechtenstein, Abu Dhabi, and Bermuda.

Details of the restructuring

The company said the consolidation of software development and back-office functions in international locations is intended to support scaling, access to broader talent pools, and investment in its future offering. Client-facing activities are expected to remain centered in Switzerland.

The consultation process with affected employees is ongoing. Final numbers of job reductions will be determined after the period ends on September 20.

Broader industry workforce changes

The Bitcoin Suisse announcement follows other workforce reductions reported across the cryptocurrency sector earlier in 2026.

On August 12, Bitwise Asset Management Inc., a San Francisco-based cryptocurrency asset management firm, reduced its workforce by about 14%. The firm cut staff to around 155 employees from approximately 180. Chief Executive Hunter Horsley said the remaining workforce was still the largest in the company’s eight-year history. The reduction came after a decline in digital-asset prices during the first half of 2026.

On July 7, Yield Guild Games announced it was shutting down its Web3 game publishing arm, YGG Play, and cutting 35 jobs. The company said it would sunset the platform, its token launchpad and associated games by August 1. Two partnered titles were to continue under their original developers.

The affected employees were to receive eight additional weeks of pay and assistance finding new roles. Yield Guild Games stated it would retain a small core team while pivoting toward selling behavioural data generated by its players to artificial-intelligence developers.

On June 23, the Ethereum Foundation announced an organizational restructuring that included the departure of 54 employees, approximately 20% of its workforce. The foundation said the changes concluded a months-long process aimed at aligning its structure, activities, and spending with its broader mandate and treasury management policy.

The organization stated the adjustments were intended to strengthen execution on critical priorities and keep resources focused on areas of greatest impact.

These earlier reductions occurred against a backdrop of declining digital-asset prices and shifting operational priorities among crypto-related firms.
