Ethereum is attracting a fresh wave of buying as one big whale scooped up nearly $63 million worth of ETH during the latest market dip. The aggressive buy comes as ETH trades below $2,300, raising questions about whether deep-pocketed investors see a recovery taking shape.
On-chain analytics platform Lookonchain reported that the whale accumulated 27,553 ETH over five hours at an average price of $2,286. The wallet’s rapid buying spree followed an earlier purchase of 16,658 ETH using nearly $38 million in USDC.
The address continued adding to its position, bringing the total purchase value to more than $62 million. The activity also shows the investor is willing to deploy substantial capital while Ethereum remained under pressure.
Rather than waiting for a confirmed breakout, the whale appears to have used the weakness to build a sizeable position.

Ethereum Whale Accumulation Raises Bottom-Catching Hopes
Large investors often accumulate during periods of uncertainty, betting that market weakness will eventually give way to a recovery. The whale’s decision to buy tens of thousands of ETH within hours suggests confidence in the current price range.
However, the wallet’s strategy remains unclear. The purchases could represent long-term accumulation, a short-term trading position, or liquidity management by a market maker.
Still, the scale of the buying stands out. A $62 million position gives the investor huge exposure to any rebound, while the average entry near $2,286 provides a clear reference point for traders watching the wallet’s next move.
If ETH begins recovering above the whale’s average purchase price, the transaction could become an important sentiment signal. Continued buying or holding would strengthen the accumulation narrative, while transfers to exchanges could suggest the investor is preparing to take profits.
Ethereum Fundamentals Add to the Bullish Case
Ethereum’s underlying ecosystem remains another factor supporting the recovery thesis. The network holds $44.5 billion in decentralized finance total value locked, showing its continued role as the largest smart contract ecosystem. Around 36% of ETH’s supply is also staked, reducing the amount of Ether readily available for trading.

That combination gives bulls a reason to view price weakness as a potential opportunity. Strong DeFi activity supports demand for Ethereum’s infrastructure, while staking keeps a big share of supply committed to network security.
The whale’s purchase does not guarantee that ETH has reached its bottom. Yet the timing suggests at least one major investor believes current prices offer an attractive entry point.
For us, the next signal will come from price action around the $2,280–$2,300 zone. Holding this area and attracting further buying could help ETH establish a foundation for recovery.
A sustained move higher would put the whale’s aggressive accumulation in a favorable position and could encourage other investors to reconsider the dip.
For now, the market is watching if this $63 million bet marks the start of an accumulation trend, or simply one investor making a high-conviction move while volatility remains elevated.
