BitGo Bank & Trust, a federally chartered digital asset trust bank, announced on September 20 to power TOYOSA, an official Toyota distributor in Bolivia. TOYOSA introduced Bitcoin as a payment method for vehicle purchases at Expocruz 2026 in Santa Cruz de la Sierra. The announcement was made at the company’s booth on the evening of September 18, 2026. Customers will be able to purchase a Toyota vehicle using Bitcoin alongside bolivianos, U.S. dollars, and USDT.
BitGo said in an X post that BitGo Bank & Trust provided the digital asset wallet infrastructure supporting the payment option. BitGo Bank & Trust is an OCC-regulated digital asset trust bank and a subsidiary of BitGo Holdings, Inc., which trades on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker BTGO.
Details of the payment launch
According to a press release snapshot shared along with BitGo’ s post, The introduction of Bitcoin follows TOYOSA’s earlier adoption of USDT payments in 2025. Under the concept “Your Bitcoin. Your Toyota. Trust Evolves,” the company presented the option as an expansion of its digital payment solutions. A video shown during the presentation concluded with the same phrase and described the process as a new way to acquire a vehicle.
TOYOSA stated that the feature adds Bitcoin to the payment options available to customers within its ecosystem.
Role of specialized partners
TOYOSA worked with two partners to implement the system. Towerbank supplied the transaction-processing platform along with experience, support and guidance within the digital asset ecosystem. BitGo Bank & Trust supplied the institutional-grade digital asset wallet infrastructure required for the payment workflow.
Edwin R. Saavedra, Director of Artificial Intelligence for the TOYOSA Group, said: “From the silver of Potosí to Bitcoin: Bolivia is once again at the forefront of the history of money.” Saavedra referenced the historic role of coins minted in Potosí and noted that the Bitcoin option follows the earlier introduction of USDT payments.
BitGo’s recent regulatory step in South Korea
In a separate development, BitGo Korea received acceptance of its Virtual Asset Service Provider registration from the Korea Financial Intelligence Unit. The registration allows the local entity of the NYSE-listed firm to provide virtual asset custody and transfer services to institutional clients in South Korea. Hana Financial Group and SK Telecom are strategic shareholders in BitGo Korea.
The company did not disclose the size of either stake. The registration covers institutional and enterprise clients, including financial institutions, asset managers, corporates, public-sector organizations and other qualified market participants. It does not cover exchange operations.
